The article presents a biography of the famous Swedish Henrik Samuel Conrad Sjögren, who in 1933 described the symptoms of dry keratoconjunctivitis, for the first time by linking them with arthritis and systemic lesions. Sjögren also the first to use staining of the cornea by Rose Bengal to identify her injuries and coined the term «dry keratoconjunctivitis» to describe the eye lesions.
