The paper presents biography of the well-known eighteenth-century clinician William Heberden and the value of its clinical findings to physicians. His name entered the history of medicine and rheumatology due to his comprehensive and outstanding description of the symptoms of angina pectoris (angina), hemorrhagic vasculitis, a nodular form of osteoarthritis lesions of the distal interphalangeal joints of hand. «Commentaries on the History and Cure of Diseases» by William Heberden, which were published by his son after his death in 1802, contains carefully selected records of follow-up, collected for several decades of the general medical practice and are still of a great value for the doctors. Heberden is considered the father of clinical observation in XVIII century and the founder of rheumatology. Currently, the organization of British rheumatologists is named «Heberden».
