Summary. Summary. Atherosclerosis is considered as lipid dystrophy (cholesterosis) proliferative and granulomatous inflammation in the intima of the vessels. The characteristic of cholesterol as inducer of inflammation, as well as the inflammatory process itself. Marked unproductive concept of the role of oxidative «modification» in the induction of inflammation, lack of effect of the antioxidants in prevention and treatment of atherosclerosis. Indicated the desirability of developing anti-cytokine therapy for atherosclerosis.
