Summary. In 1947 The European League against Rheumatism (EULAR) was established in 1947 to deal with rheumatic and musculoskeletal disordes. The goal of the EULAR is to reduce the burden of rheumatic diseases and improve treatment, prevention and rehabi­litation of the musculoskeletal system pathology. The review article presents the achievements of the world rheumatology in the last 70 years, analyzed the sta­ges of development of rheumatology and the impact of these discoveries on the quality of life of patients with rheumatic diseases. Progress in rheumatology has been driven mainly by the development of anti-inflammatory, immune modulating and disease mo­difying drugs.
