Rheumatoid arthritis and respiratory failure: a combination with a defining valueSummary. Damage to the respiratory system is one of the most frequent extra-articular manifestations of rheumatoid arthritis (RA). This review highlights the main features of the respiratory system lesions in patients with RA. It has been demonstrated that the involvement of the respiratory system, especially the lung parenchyma, leads to a significant increase in mortality rates in patients with RA.
